What Therapies I Use

In our sessions, I utilize EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), both evidence-based methods known for their effectiveness in healing psychological trauma, depression, and anxiety. These approaches are integrated with a deep commitment to compassion and non-judgment, ensuring that therapy progresses at your own pace and according to your personal readiness. Each step is taken with care, fully respecting your journey towards healing.

    EMDR Therapy:
Overcoming the Past for a Brighter Future

EMDR is a groundbreaking therapy that helps you process traumatic memories and reduce their emotional impact. It uses guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation to allow your brain to reprocess difficult memories, reducing their power over you. Whether you’re dealing with trauma, anxiety, or depression, EMDR can be a highly effective tool.

    How EMDR Works

Traumatic memories can sometimes get stuck in the brain, causing ongoing emotional distress. EMDR helps unlock these memories, so they can be processed and integrated, leading to emotional relief. Multiple studies support EMDR’s efficacy:

EMDR has been extensively studied and is recognized as an effective treatment for trauma-related symptoms, particularly post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) (Maxfield, 2019).

    Trauma and PTSD

EMDR can also alleviate symptoms of depression, especially when trauma is a contributing factor (Gauhar, 2016).

    Depression

Studies show that EMDR effectively reduces anxiety by helping you process past experiences that fuel present fears (Perri et al., 2021).

    Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy:
    A Compassionate Approach to Self-Healing

IFS is a unique and compassionate approach that views the mind as made up of multiple “parts.” Sometimes, these parts take on extreme roles, leading to internal conflict and emotional pain. With IFS, you’ll learn to connect with these parts, heal their wounds, and restore balance within yourself.

    How IFS Helps

In IFS therapy, we believe every part of you—even the ones that seem destructive or problematic—has good intentions. Through this therapy, you can develop a harmonious relationship with your internal parts and reduce symptoms of trauma, anxiety, and depression. Research shows that IFS is effective in:

IFS has been shown to significantly reduce depressive symptoms and foster emotional healing in individuals dealing with difficult life transitions (Haddock et al., 2017).

    Depression

IFS has demonstrated promising results in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), particularly for individuals with a history of multiple traumas (Hodgdon et al., 2021).

    PTSD

IFS’s non-pathologizing approach, which can be particularly helpful for those with anxiety, viewing anxious behaviors as protective parts of the self that can be unburdened (Bee, 2002).
