Trauma Treatment

The word trauma can bring up many different feelings, and might even leave you wonder if you are impacted by trauma. Many note not wanting to call it trauma because "it just wasn't that bad." Regardless of the size of the trauma, it can have a significant impact on your life and how you cope. My role is to support you in identifying how trauma has affected you and a path through it without judgement.

My approach to treatment is always to "meet you where you are." That means that we will always take the time to notice what is most important at the time, without judgment, as well as incorporating your goals. To work with the trauma, I utilize EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) in conjunction with other methods that are well established and tested.

To get started, I recommend a short initial consultation to discuss what's bringing you to therapy and be sure we are a good fit. The initial consultation has no commitment and is no charge. Therapy works best when both client and therapist feel comfortable with one another. Each person is different and if we're not a good fit, that's okay.

Treatment approaches
These are the methods that I utilize to help work with the effects of trauma on your life. However, the most important step is for us to take time to develop a good therapeutic relationship so that we both feel comfortable with how to support you.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) - EMDR is a process that helps to reduce the impact of traumatic memories and other symptoms. It helps the brain to reprocess events from the past in a way that doesn't require reliving the entirety of the experiences. By using sets of eye movements combined with reflection on memories EMDR can help to reduce the emotions around those events. See EMDR Page for more information.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) - Have you ever noticed yourself saying "a part of me wants to.... but another says don't"? IFS is a way of understanding those parts and developing a new way of communicating with them. Using this approach we can help them slow down and maybe even do something different to reduce symptoms. It integrates well with approaches as well.

Strengths-based - You're here today and that means you've found many great ways of finding your way through difficult times and situations. We want to work to build on what you already know and is working.

Learning Resilience Program

The Learning Resilience Program is now available. The program utilizes positive psychology and other methodologies  to help develop new ways of seeing challenging issues each day. Resilience is the ability accept that there will be hard times and challenges and feeling comfortable that you have the skills to cope and continue to maintain daily life.

This program is a hybrid style course including video-based lessons, workbook activities, and individual sessions with me. It is a total of six sessions.

This program is for those struggling with mild to moderate anxiety, depression, and residual effects of the pandemic.
